Blackberry Simple Syrup Easy and Versatile Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh blackberries
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 zest lemon (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the blackberries under cool water and place them in a medium saucepan. Gently crush the berries with a fork or potato masher to release their juices.
- Add the granulated sugar and water to the saucepan with the crushed blackberries. Stir until the sugar starts to dissolve.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Stir occasionally to ensure the sugar fully dissolves and the blackberries infuse their flavor.
- Once the syrup reaches a simmer, reduce the heat to low and add the lemon juice and optional lemon zest. Allow the syrup to simmer for about 10-15 minutes, continuing to stir occasionally.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean glass jar or bottle, pressing down on the solids with the back of a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible.
- Once fully cooled, seal the jar or bottle and store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
