Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3.75 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.25 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix well to distribute the dry ingredients.
  2. Slowly add the warm water and olive oil to the dry mixture, stirring until a dough begins to form.
  3. Knead the dough in the bowl for about 5 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick on a lightly floured surface.
  6. Transfer the rolled-out dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Make shallow cuts in the dough to create stick shapes. This will help in separating them after baking.
  7. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, minced garlic, and dried herbs. Brush this mixture evenly over the dough.
  8. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese generously over the dough, ensuring to cover it well.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and the breadsticks are golden brown.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes, then cut along the pre-scored lines into individual breadsticks.
  11. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
