Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3.4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 0.5 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet (preferably cast iron), melt the softened butter over low heat. Remove from heat once melted and let it cool slightly.
  3. Add the brown sugar and granulated sugar to the skillet, stirring until well combined with the butter.
  4. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the skillet, stirring just until combined; do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using).
  7. Spread the cookie dough evenly in the skillet.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is slightly soft.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. You can optionally top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a decadent finish!

💡 Chef's Notes

Serve slices directly from the skillet, topped with a scoop of ice cream and a sprinkle of sea salt for an elegant touch.
