Easy Americanized Bangers and Mash Comfort Food Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 pound pork sausages (breakfast sausage or Italian sausage)
- 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 0.5 cup milk
- 0.25 cup unsalted butter
- to taste Salt and pepper
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 0.25 cup chopped green onions (for garnish)
- 1 Gravy (store-bought or homemade, optional)
Instructions
- Begin by cooking the sausages. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the sausages and cook until browned and cooked through, about 15-18 minutes, turning occasionally. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- While the sausages are cooking, prepare the mashed potatoes. In a large pot, bring water to a boil, then add the chopped Yukon Gold potatoes. Boil until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the milk, butter, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasonings to taste.
- If using gravy, heat it according to package instructions. If making homemade gravy, prepare according to your favorite recipe while the sausages and potatoes finish cooking.
- To serve, spoon a generous portion of mashed potatoes onto each plate. Place two sausages on top and drizzle gravy over the sausages (if using).
- Garnish with chopped green onions for a pop of color and flavor.
