Easy Strawberry Basil Galette Perfect for Sharing
Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon fresh basil, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 pre-made pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the halved strawberries, sugar, cornstarch, chopped basil, and lemon juice. Gently toss to combine and set aside for about 10 minutes to let the strawberries release their juices.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pre-made pie crust into a rough circle about 12 inches in diameter.
- Transfer the rolled dough to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Spoon the strawberry mixture into the center of the dough, leaving about a 2-inch border all around.
- Fold the edges of the dough over the filling, pleating it to create a rustic look, leaving the center exposed.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk to create an egg wash. Brush the edges of the crust with the egg wash.
- Sprinkle the coarse sugar over the crust for added sweetness and a nice crunch.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the strawberries are bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before slicing.
