Fluffy Cathead Biscuits Simple and Tasty Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup buttermilk (or 1 cup milk + 1 tablespoon vinegar)
- 0.5 teaspoon baking soda (optional for extra fluffiness)
- 0.25 teaspoon garlic powder (for a unique twist)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and garlic powder (if using).
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Gently stir until just combined. The dough should be slightly sticky. Avoid overmixing!
- For extra fluffiness, sprinkle the baking soda over the dough and fold it in gently.
- With floured hands, take a scoop of dough (about a 1/3 cup) and shape it into a rough ball. Place it on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining dough, leaving space between each biscuit.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.
