Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or 1 cup milk + 1 tablespoon vinegar)
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda (optional for extra fluffiness)
  • 0.25 teaspoon garlic powder (for a unique twist)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and garlic powder (if using).
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Gently stir until just combined. The dough should be slightly sticky. Avoid overmixing!
  5. For extra fluffiness, sprinkle the baking soda over the dough and fold it in gently.
  6. With floured hands, take a scoop of dough (about a 1/3 cup) and shape it into a rough ball. Place it on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining dough, leaving space between each biscuit.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.

💡 Chef's Notes

Serve warm, brushed with melted butter on top and accompanied by homemade jam or honey for an extra touch.
