Homemade Cheesy Garlic Bread Sloppy Joe Melts Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 0.5 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- to taste salt and pepper
- 4 large slices thick-cut garlic bread
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 0.5 cup diced tomatoes (optional)
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat a bit of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing for about 2-3 minutes until the onion becomes translucent.
- Add the ground beef or turkey to the skillet. Cook until browned and fully cooked through, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.
- While the Sloppy Joe mixture simmers, preheat your oven according to the package instructions for the garlic bread or to 400°F (200°C) if making from scratch.
- On a baking sheet, place the slices of garlic bread. Spoon a generous amount of the Sloppy Joe mixture on top of each slice. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the meat mixture, and add diced tomatoes if using.
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5-7 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and slightly golden.
- Remove the melts from the oven, let them cool slightly, then sprinkle with fresh parsley. Cut in half if desired and serve warm.
