Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1.5 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda (for boiling)
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • 3 tablespoons everything bagel seasoning

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Mix well to distribute evenly.
  2. Gradually pour in the warm water, mixing with a wooden spoon or your hand until a shaggy dough begins to form.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and make a hole in the center to form the bagel shape.
  6. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the baking soda. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  7. Carefully drop the bagels into the boiling water, cooking for about 1 minute on each side. Remove the bagels with a slotted spoon and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it on top of each bagel to give them a glossy finish. Sprinkle the everything bagel seasoning generously over the top of each bagel.
  9. Bake the bagels in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  10. Let the bagels cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing and enjoying!
