Homemade Mayonnaise Simple Recipe for Flavorful Dip
Ingredients
- 1 large egg (room temperature)
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar or lemon juice
- 1 cup neutral oil (like canola or grapeseed)
- to taste Salt
- a pinch cayenne pepper or smoked paprika (optional)
Instructions
- In a tall, narrow container (like a mason jar), combine the egg, Dijon mustard, and white vinegar or lemon juice. Whisk it together until well blended.
- Using an immersion blender (or a regular blender), blend the egg mixture on the bottom of the container first, then slowly start to lift the blender upwards while continuously blending. This process helps emulsify the mixture.
- Begin to gently pour the neutral oil into the mixture in a thin, steady stream while blending. Make sure to keep blending until the mayo thickens and reaches your desired consistency.
- Once fully blended, taste the mayonnaise and add salt to your preference. If you want it spicier, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or smoked paprika for an extra kick.
- After achieving the desired taste and thickness, transfer your mayonnaise to a clean container with a lid.
💡 Chef's Notes
Store the mayonnaise in a decorated jar and label it; this makes a great gift for foodie friends! Use it in sandwiches, salads, or as a dip for veggies.
