Ingredients

  • 14 oz firm tofu, pressed and cut into cubes
  • 3 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup for a vegan option)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 spray cooking spray or olive oil for air frying
  • 1 garnish chopped green onions and sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Start by pressing the tofu for about 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture. Once pressed, cut the tofu into evenly sized cubes.
  2. Marinate: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together honey (or maple syrup), minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper. Add the tofu cubes to the marinade, ensuring they are well-coated. Allow the tofu to marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  3. Coat with Cornstarch: After marinating, sprinkle the cornstarch over the tofu and gently toss to coat all the pieces evenly. This will help achieve a crispy texture during air frying.
  4. Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for around 5 minutes.
  5. Air Fry the Tofu: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or brush with olive oil. Place the marinated tofu cubes in a single layer in the basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Air fry for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the tofu is golden and crispy.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Once cooked, remove the tofu from the air fryer and transfer it to a serving plate. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

💡 Chef's Notes
