Ingredients

  • 4 fillets salmon (6 oz each)
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 green onions chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, grated ginger, minced garlic, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes until well combined.
  2. Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag. Pour the marinade over the salmon, making sure each piece is coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more flavor.
  3. Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. If grilling, lightly oil the grill grates to prevent sticking.
  4. Remove the salmon from the marinade, shaking off any excess. Reserve the marinade for basting.
  5. Place the salmon fillets skin-side down on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes, then carefully flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes, basting with the reserved marinade.
  6. Once the salmon is cooked to your desired level of doneness (the internal temperature should reach 145°F or 63°C), remove it from the heat.
  7. Let the salmon rest for a few minutes before serving.
  8. Garnish with chopped green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds before serving.
