Ingredients

  • 4 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)
  • 1 2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.25 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • for garnish fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and oregano.
  3. In three separate dishes, set up your breading stations – one with flour, another with beaten eggs, and the third with a mixture of breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese.
  4. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, shaking off any excess.
  5. Dip them into the beaten eggs, ensuring they are fully coated.
  6. Press each chicken breast firmly into the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring an even coating on both sides.
  7. Place the breaded chicken breasts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the coating is golden brown.
  8. Remove the chicken from the oven and spoon a generous amount of marinara sauce over each breast. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  9. Return the chicken to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Once done, let the chicken rest for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
