Teriyaki Turkey Meatballs Flavorful and Healthy Dinner
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 0.5 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
- 0.25 cup green onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1 egg lightly beaten
- 0.25 cup soy sauce (low sodium)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water (for thickening)
- to taste salt and pepper
- for garnish toasted sesame seeds
- for garnish (optional) fresh cilantro
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, green onion, garlic, ginger, and egg. Season with salt and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Form the turkey mixture into small meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until they are cooked through and lightly golden.
- While the meatballs are baking, prepare the teriyaki sauce: In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, and sesame oil. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Once simmering, stir in the cornstarch mixture and continue to cook until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
- When the meatballs are done, remove them from the oven and transfer them to a large bowl. Pour the teriyaki sauce over the meatballs and gently toss to coat them evenly.
- Serve the teriyaki turkey meatballs warm, garnished with toasted sesame seeds and fresh cilantro if desired.
💡 Chef's Notes
Use low sodium soy sauce for a healthier option.
