Ingredients

  • 4 whole ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 1 whole French baguette or Italian bread, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped basil leaves, and minced garlic.
  2. Drizzle in the balsamic vinegar and olive oil, stirring gently to mix the ingredients.
  3. Season with salt and pepper to taste. If desired, add honey for a touch of sweetness and mix well.
  4. Allow the mixture to marinate for at least 15 minutes to enhance the flavors.
  5. While the mixture is marinating, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  6. Arrange the sliced baguette or Italian bread on a baking sheet. Drizzle with a bit of olive oil on each slice.
  7. Toast the bread in the oven for about 8-10 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Once the bread is ready, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  9. Spoon the tomato and basil mixture generously onto each toasted slice of bread.
  10. Serve immediately and enjoy the vibrant flavors!

💡 Chef's Notes

Arrange the bruschetta on a wooden serving board for a rustic feel. Garnish with a few whole basil leaves on top for a pop of color. Serve with a small bowl of balsamic vinegar for drizzling, if desired.
