Ingredients

  • 6 pieces buttery croissants
  • 6 slices deli ham
  • 6 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 piece egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • to taste freshly ground black pepper
  • for garnish fresh chives, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Slice each croissant in half horizontally, being careful not to cut all the way through.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the Dijon mustard and honey until well combined.
  4. Spread about a teaspoon of the mustard-honey mixture inside each croissant.
  5. Place a slice of ham and a slice of Swiss cheese inside each croissant, then sprinkle with a tablespoon of shredded Gruyère cheese.
  6. Close the croissants carefully and place them seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Brush the tops of the croissants with the beaten egg to give them a golden finish.
  8. Sprinkle a pinch of freshly ground black pepper over the croissants for added flavor.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the croissants are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before garnishing with freshly chopped chives.
