Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

3/4 cup buttermilk

1 pound breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)

1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for the gravy)

2 cups milk (whole or 2%)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

2 large eggs

Fresh parsley or chives, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Make the Biscuits: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Mix in Buttermilk: Pour in the buttermilk gradually, stirring until just combined. Don’t overmix. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently pat it to about 1-inch thick. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out rounds or simply slice into squares.

Bake Biscuits: Place the biscuit pieces onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven when done.

Prepare Sausage Gravy: While the biscuits are baking, cook the sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until browned and cooked through. Sprinkle the additional 1/4 cup of flour over the sausage and stir for about 1 minute.

Make the Gravy: Gradually whisk in the milk, making sure to stir out any lumps. Add garlic powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Continue to cook, stirring frequently until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

Assemble the Pizza: On a large oven-safe pizza stone or baking sheet, spread the sausage gravy evenly as the base. Tear the baked biscuits into pieces and scatter them across the gravy layer.

Add Egg & Cheese: Crack the eggs over the biscuit pieces, spacing them evenly. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.

Final Bake: Place back in the oven and bake for an additional 10-12 minutes or until the eggs are set to your preference and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley or chives before slicing and serving.

Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 45 minutes | Servings: 4-6 slices

                      - Presentation Tips: Serve warm on a wooden cutting board, with a sprinkle of fresh herbs for color. You can also drizzle extra gravy over individual slices for a hearty look!
