Ingredients

4 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch rounds

1 pound ground beef or turkey

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 egg, beaten

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

2 cups marinara sauce

1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh basil, for garnish

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

    Boil the Potatoes:

      - In a large pot, place the sliced potatoes and cover them with water.

        - Bring to a boil and cook for about 5-7 minutes until slightly tender but not fully cooked. Drain and set aside.

          Prepare the Meatballs:

            - In a mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, beaten egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

              - Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.

                Form Meatballs:

                  - Shape the meat mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. You should have approximately 18-20 meatballs.

                    Brown the Meatballs:

                      - In a skillet over medium heat, add a little oil and cook the meatballs for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until browned. Remove and set aside.

                        Assemble the Dish:

                          - In a baking dish, layer half of the boiled potato slices at the bottom.

                            - Spoon half of the marinara sauce over the potatoes, then add half of the meatballs on top.

                              - Sprinkle with half of the shredded mozzarella cheese.

                                - Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, marinara sauce, meatballs, and top with the rest of the mozzarella cheese.

                                  Bake:

                                    - Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

                                      - Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

                                        Garnish and Serve:

                                          - Once done, let the dish cool slightly, then garnish with fresh basil before serving.
