1 box chocolate cake mix

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup vegetable oil

3 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

1/2 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped (optional)

1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix and cocoa powder. Stir with a whisk until evenly blended.

Add the vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined and smooth. Do not overmix to avoid tough brownies.

Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts, if using, until evenly distributed in the batter.

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it out evenly with a spatula.
