- Cherries: Use ripe, sweet cherries for the best flavor. Dark red or black varieties work great. Look for cherries that feel firm and have a shiny skin. Avoid any with blemishes or soft spots. Ripe cherries taste sweet and juicy, perfect for your Agua Fresca.

Ingredients

2 cups fresh cherries, pitted and halved

4 cups water

1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)

1 tablespoon lime juice (freshly squeezed)

Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Begin by rinsing the cherries under cold water. Remove the pits and slice them in half. Place the prepared cherries in a blender.

Add 2 cups of water and 1/4 cup of sugar to the blender. Blend until completely smooth, about 30 seconds.

Once blended, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher to remove the pulp and skins. Use the back of a spoon to press down on the mixture to extract as much juice as possible.

Add the remaining 2 cups of water and the freshly squeezed lime juice to the pitcher. Stir well to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness by adding more sugar if needed.

Chill the Agua Fresca in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

Serve over ice in glasses, garnishing with fresh mint leaves for an added touch of flavor and aroma.
