Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1 cup water crackers (or saltines)

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped nuts (almonds, pecans, or walnuts)

Sea salt for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Arrange the water crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet, covering the surface completely.

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil and let it bubble for about 3-4 minutes, without stirring, until it reaches a caramel-like consistency.

Pour the caramel mixture evenly over the crackers, making sure to cover them thoroughly.

Transfer the baking sheet to the preheated oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, until bubbly and lightly golden.

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot caramel layer.

Let the chocolate sit for a minute to melt, then use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate evenly across the surface.

Sprinkle the chopped nuts over the chocolate layer, pressing them lightly to ensure they stick.

For an extra touch, sprinkle a small amount of sea salt on top if desired.

Allow the mixture to cool completely, then refrigerate for about 30 minutes for the chocolate to set.

Once chill, break the toffee into pieces and serve.
