Ingredients

1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined

1/2 cup cornstarch

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 cup buttermilk

Vegetable oil, for frying

1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice

Zest of 1 orange

1/4 cup honey

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp rice vinegar

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Sliced green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, flour, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk with the cleaned shrimp, making sure they are well coated.

Take the shrimp from the buttermilk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, and dredge them in the flour mixture until fully coated.

In a deep pan or fryer, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Carefully add the breaded shrimp to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 3-4 minutes, or until the shrimp are golden brown and crispy. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

In a small saucepan, combine the orange juice, orange zest, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes (if using). Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook until the sauce thickens slightly, about 6-8 minutes.

To serve, place the crispy shrimp on a platter and drizzle the orange sauce over them. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds for added crunch and flavor.
