Ingredients

8 slices of crusty bread (such as sourdough or French baguette)

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 cup cooked ham, chopped

1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese (or Swiss cheese)

1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Cut the crusty bread into cubes and spread half of them in a single layer in the prepared baking dish.

Sprinkle half of the chopped ham and half of the Gruyère cheese over the bread layer.

In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

Pour half of the egg mixture evenly over the first layer in the baking dish.

Repeat the layers with the remaining bread cubes, ham, and Gruyère cheese, then pour the rest of the egg mixture over the top, ensuring everything is well moistened.

Top with the cheddar cheese for an added flavor twist.

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the casserole is set and the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Allow to cool slightly before garnishing with fresh parsley and slicing into squares.

                      Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 6-8

                        - Presentation Tips: Serve warm with a side of mixed greens and garnish with extra parsley for a pop of color. Consider drizzling a light balsamic reduction over the greens for an elegant touch.
