Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)

4 slices sharp cheddar cheese

4 slices American cheese

4 hamburger buns

1 tablespoon olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tablespoon mayonnaise

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon ketchup

1 tablespoon pickle relish

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

Optional: sliced pickles and lettuce for topping

Instructions

Prepare the Special New York Sauce: In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, ketchup, pickle relish, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Mix well and set aside.

Shape the Patties: Divide the ground beef into four equal portions (about 4 oz each). Gently shape each portion into a ball without compacting it too much.

Heat the Grill or Skillet: Preheat a griddle or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil to coat the surface.

Smash the Patties: Place the beef balls onto the hot surface and immediately use a spatula or burger press to smash each ball down into a flat patty (approximately 1/2 inch thick). Season with salt and pepper.

Cook the Patties: Let the patties cook for about 2-3 minutes without moving them. This helps develop a nice crust. After 2-3 minutes, flip the patties.

Add the Cheese: Immediately place two slices of cheddar and two slices of American cheese on top of each patty. Cover the skillet/griddle with a lid or a large sheet of aluminum foil to help the cheese melt, cooking for an additional 2 minutes.

Toast the Buns: While the cheese is melting, cut the hamburger buns in half and toast them on the grill or in a separate skillet until golden brown.

Assemble the Burgers: Spread a generous spoonful of the Special New York Sauce on the bottom half of each toasted hamburger bun. Place a cheesy smash patty on top, and add sliced pickles and lettuce if desired. Top with the other half of the bun.

Serve: Serve the burgers hot with extra sauce on the side and enjoy!

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 25 minutes | Servings: 4 burgers

                      - Presentation Tips: Skewers can hold the burgers together for serving if desired, and you can add a handful of fries or chips on the side for a complete meal!
