Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup chocolate chips

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Prepare the Brownie Layer: In a medium saucepan, melt 1/2 cup of butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined. Mix in the cocoa powder, flour, and salt until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and set aside.

Make the Cookie Layer: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. Slowly mix in the flour, baking soda, and salt until fully incorporated. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts if using.

Layer the Batter: Spread the brownie batter evenly in the prepared baking pan. Gently drop spoonfuls of the cookie batter on top of the brownie layer, using a spatula or the back of a spoon to spread the cookie batter out slightly.

Swirl the Layers: Use a knife or a skewer to swirl the brownie and cookie batters together for a marbled effect. Be careful not to over-mix; you want to see distinct brownie and cookie swirls.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist, fudgy crumbs (not wet batter).

Cool and Serve: Allow the brookies to cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 15 minutes before slicing into squares. Enjoy warm for maximum fudginess!
