Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon instant yeast

1 teaspoon sugar

3/4 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup warm water

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 cup mixed fillings (e.g., leftover cooked vegetables, pepperoni, cooked sausage, or diced ham)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Stir to mix. Slowly add the warm water and olive oil, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Prepare Fillings: While the dough rises, prepare your fillings. Mix your choice of leftover cooked vegetables, meats, and mozzarella cheese in a bowl. Add Italian seasoning and garlic powder, stirring well to combine.

Roll Out Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle, roughly 12x18 inches.

Add Fillings: Spread the filling mixture evenly across the dough, leaving about a 1-inch border around the edges.

Roll It Up: Starting from one of the shorter sides, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the ends to seal and tuck them under slightly to secure.

Egg Wash: Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush it generously over the surface of the log. This will give it a beautiful golden color when baked.

Bake: Place the rolled dough seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking tray. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped on the bottom.

Cool and Slice: Remove the Garbage Bread from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before slicing. This helps the cheese set a bit and makes it easier to cut.

                      Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes | Servings: 4-6

                        - Presentation Tips: Serve warm, sliced, and arranged on a wooden board. You can accompany it with a side of marinara sauce for dipping to enhance the flavors!
