In a large bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey with teriyaki sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined and form into 4 equal patties.
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. If using a grill pan, heat it over medium heat on the stove.
Grill the pineapple slices for about 3-4 minutes on each side until caramelized and grill marks appear. Remove from the grill and set aside.
Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 5-6 minutes on one side. Flip the burgers and place a grilled pineapple slice on top of each patty. Cook for an additional 5-6 minutes for medium doneness.
In the last couple of minutes of cooking, place the burger buns cut side down on the grill to lightly toast.
Spread a thin layer of additional teriyaki sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Place the lettuce (or spinach), followed by the grilled burger with pineapple on top. Add sliced red onion and jalapeños if desired. Drizzle with more teriyaki sauce and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
Close the burgers with the top bun and serve immediately.
Notes
Feel free to adjust the heat with jalapeños according to your preference.
