Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup diced cooked ham

¾ cup buttermilk

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 tablespoon honey (optional)

Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and diced ham until evenly dispersed throughout the flour mixture.

In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk, melted butter, and honey (if using). Mix until well blended.

Pour the buttermilk mixture into the dry ingredients, gently stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing; a few lumps are okay.

Pour the biscuit dough into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Using a spoon, create small indents in the dough and drizzle any remaining melted butter over the top (this will help them swim in flavor).

Sprinkle freshly cracked black pepper over the top to taste.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Let them cool slightly before cutting into squares and serving warm.
