Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed brown sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 tablespoon red food coloring (gel)

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup powdered sugar (for the cream cheese frosting)

Optional: Sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Add in the eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Mix until fully combined and the batter is a vibrant red.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Do not over-mix!

Fold in the chocolate chips gently to distribute evenly throughout the dough.

Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.

Bake for 18-22 minutes, just until set in the center (a toothpick inserted should come out slightly moist).

While the bars are baking, prepare the cream cheese frosting by beating together the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.

Once the bars have cooled, spread the cream cheese frosting evenly over the top and slice into squares.

Optional: Decorate with sprinkles for an extra touch of joy!
