Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for flavor)

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup ketchup

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon mustard (yellow or Dijon)

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

4 hoagie rolls or thick slices of crusty bread

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1 minute, stirring constantly.

Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well until the beef is coated in the sauce. Simmer on low heat for about 5-7 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Slice the hoagie rolls or bread in half and place them on a baking sheet. Toast in the preheated oven for about 5 minutes, or until slightly crispy.

Remove the toasted rolls from the oven and spoon the beef mixture generously onto each roll. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.

Return the sandwiches to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Once out of the oven, let the sandwiches cool for a minute. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
